On Saturday, November 23, the City of New Fairview held a tree planting event at the city park, 150 Stewart Street. Participating in the event were the Chisholm Trail Middle School Student Council, parents, and sponsors, the youth group from the Rhome Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Courtney Blevins with the Texas Forest Service, members of the Citizen Forester Program, the New Fairview Parks and Recreation Board, and the City Council. The group helped plant eleven Cedar Elm trees and one large Live Oak tree as phase one of the Landscaping plan for the park.
The foresters spoke on the benefits of trees and gave a demonstration on the proper planting of a tree. Some volunteers also assisted with the maintenance of the walking trail. Rainwater that was recently harvested from the new system at the municipal complex was used to water the trees. There is a community garden and more tree plantings planned for this park. The City of New Fairview wishes to thank the volunteers that assisted with this very important project.
